Annually since 1901, at the beginning of October Nobel Prize awardees (Laureates) are announced and a couple of months later, on December 10th, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death, they receive a Nobel diploma, a medal, and money. This year the Nobel Prize money amount is set at 8.0 million Swedish kroner’s (SEK) per full Nobel Prize, which is $1.2 million US dollars. Nobel Prizes are awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace. Over eighty years ago in 1931, a Nobel Prize for medicine was awarded to German biochemist Otto Heinrich Warburg for his discoveries surrounding the negative respiratory effects of human cells and the metabolism of cancerous tumors thriving in acidic conditions that result from consuming processed foods such as sugar.
By and large, for nearly a century the warning signs and serious health risks from eating too much processed sugar has been known the world over. Cancer kills by replacing normal oxygen respiration of the body’s cells, as it metabolizes much differently than normal cells. Normal cells need oxygen and cancer cells despise oxygen. It catalyzes an oxidation-reduction reaction necessary for normal breathing of cells. This is one reason why cancer research foundations host fundraising events that involve walking and/or running knowing that vigorous exercise works to prevent and maintain remission of cancerous cells.
The processed sugar added to items like soda, candy, junk cereals, juice drinks, and processed grains are classified as simple sugars. Those simple sugars can accelerate cancer cell development of the breast, ovaries, prostate, rectum, pancreas, biliary tract, lung, gallbladder and stomach. Eating processed sugar can cause autoimmune diseases such as arthritis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, and even uncontrolled growth of yeast infections. Eating processed sugar can raise the probability of contracting gallstones, hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Overt consumption of sugary-filled products will elevate glucose and insulin responses in oral contraceptive users and it accelerates bone deterioration or osteoporosis through constant removal of calcium.
This is why I am in high spirits when you talk about the Let’s Move program led by the First Lady, Michelle Obama. Mainly because our society’s longstanding dependencies on alcohol and drug consumption will stay a problem until whole generations learn how to live sober and healthy. Provided that we continual feed ourselves improperly at a young age we can never expect to have the ability to abstain from seeking a state of inebriation. Consider slowing your child’s roll from falling into a sugar-high from eating excessive Halloween candy, as nearly one in three American children are overweight or obese, and this is nearly one in two for black and Hispanic children. Aside from developing diabetes from poor health, at some point chronic obesity-related problems yield heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, insulin resistance, chronic headaches, and other old school ailments.
